Europe: Lancaster bombers raid Schichau U-boat yards at Danzig in thunderstorm (longest daylight raid to date); several aircraft stray over west Sweden and Swedish fighters are scrambled.

Sea War

Mediterranean: South African armed whalers Protea and Southern Maid sink Italian submarine Ondina off Beirut.
