Pacific

Philippines: Japanese storm troops cross narrow strait from Bataan Peninsula to Corregidor and establish beachhead in the face of desperate US-Filipino resistance (night May 5-6).

Sea War

Madagascar: British forces land near Diego Suarez (Operation Ironclad). Carriers Illustrious and Indomitable provide air cover – Vichy forces AMC ship and submarines sunk. British corvette Auricula mined.

Air War

Germany: 34 RAF bombers attacking Stuttgart and dropping 54t of bombs.
