Last-minute check before a mission by RAF Coastal Command Fortress IIA (B-17E). Some 200 served there from mid-1942.

Sea War

Atlantic: Abortive combined operation by U-boats and Condor aircraft west of Portugal (night November 8-9). RAF B-17 Fortress from Azores sinks U-707.

Germany: Hitler speaks in Munich; promises retaliation for Allied terror bombing.

Occupied Territories

Lebanon: Chamber of Deputies votes to amend Constitution, in defiance of French Delegate General Helleu.
