The wreckage of a downed He 111 by anti-aircraft fire over Warsaw from this day. The plane crashed into houses.

Poland

Germans break through western frontier cordon of Polish armies and cross river Vistula. Polish High Command orders general retreat behind the Vistula. Germans take Bydgoszcz at the southern end of the Corridor.
German bombers destroy town of Sulejow, south-west of Warsaw.

USA: Official announcement of US neutrality.

Neutrals

South Africa: General Smuts replaces pro-German Prime Minister Hertzog.
