Western Front

Verdun: Violent German attacks gain ground at Hill 304 (attacks fail following day) and Fort Douaumont.

Eastern Front

Austria: Military intelligence discovers 4 Russian corps of Brusilov between Kolki and Rovno but warning disregarded.

Middle East

Mesopotamia: Khalil Pasha orders 6,000 Turks with 14 guns from Kut to Persian frontier.

African Fronts

South Algeria: French defeat Tuareg revolt until May 9. Leader Firhoun killed on May 25 and submission by September 1.

Occupied countries

Serbia: Serb Government set up at Salonika (Greece).

Home Fronts

Germany: Unpopular and ill Interior Minister Delbrück resigns.
